Solid Waste Facilities
- Environmental Health staffs serve as the Local Enforcement Agency (LEA) for the California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB), issuing permits and inspecting solid waste facilities for compliance with state laws.
- The Environmental Health Division regulates and inspects more than 50 solid waste facilities in Mendocino County, including: 5 closed/inactive municipal landfills, 3 woodwaste disposal sites, 2 composting facilities, and 11 transfer stations.
- Approximately 200 inspections are conducted annually. Closed sites are inspected either annually or quarterly, while active facilities are inspected quarterly or monthly, depending on their size. These sites are required to maintain compliance with their permit conditions as well as State Minimum Standards.
