The Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI) component is divided into 6 subcomponents of targeted prevention and early intervention program types and strategies.  PEI aims to prevent negative outcomes by intervening early in the onset of mental health needs with timely access to services and support.

    Substance Use Disorders Treatment (SUDT) facilitates several school-based prevention, intervention and counseling programs that enhances youths' internal strengths and resiliency while addressing patterns of substance abuse.

    Service Provider: Mendocino County SUDT

     

    Evidence based Positive Parenting Programs to reduce adverse child hood experiences by supporting family resilience, improved self awareness, reduction of parental stressors, and recognition of mental health symptoms and impacts for parents and children.

    Service Provider: First 5 Mendocino

     

    This is a school based intervention and therapy program. The program promotes early identification, intervention, development of recovery skills, paraprofessional groups, and referral to individual therapy and rehabilitation services.

    Service Provider: Anderson Valley Unified School District

     

    NAMI is an educational program that provides outreach and advocacy to individuals and/or their families in need of mental health support. May include classes, groups, a Warm Line, and community/home outreach.

    Service Provider: NAMI Mendocino

     

    These are peer-based programs supporting older adults designed to reduce isolation, increase pro-social/positive health activities, and reduce the risk of depression and other more serious mental health issues. These programs use a Senior Peer Counseling and/or a Friendly Visitor model.

    Service Provider: Ukiah Senior Center; Redwood Coast Senior Center; Coastal Seniors

     

    This program aims to foster healthy social-emotional development and promote the mental health of young children by increasing the skills of parents and teachers to recognize emotional and developmental needs. The program will collaborate with Head Start in Tribal Government communities to train, coach and provide other supports to teachers and parents.

    Service Provider: Consolidated Tribal Health Project

     

    Consolidated Tribal Health Project will collaborate with Tribal Government communities to identify Native American youth at risk for school failure or unemployment due to the challenges of serious mental health or serious emotional disturbance. Through therapeutic intervention, and engagement in treatment this program aims to reduce the impact of serious mental illness and serious emotional disorder.

    Service Provider: Consolidated Tribal Health Project

     

    This is a Joint Powers Authority agreement between Counties formed in 2009 to combine county resources to provide programs and campaigns that are consistent across the State. Examples of programs and campaigns include Know the Signs, Each Mind Matters, and Directing Change.

    Mendocino County provides activities to increase awareness of mental health symptoms, treatment, and available resources. Activities include “May is Mental Health Month” activities, and participation in health fairs.

    Service Provider: Action Network

     

    Seeks to provide training in mental health, suicide prevention, and substance use disorders to the community. The program will prioritize bringing training to Native American Communities, outlying areas in particular.

    These are middle school based educational groups designed to raise awareness of mental illness. School districts include Ukiah, Willits, Redwood Valley, Point Arena, Fort Bragg, and Laytonville.

    These are school-based activities and trainings, which promote referrals to peer counseling that are offered in the Point Arena Schools to screen for mental health concerns, educate about wellness and self-care, and provide stigma and discrimination reduction activities.

    This program will expand training and educational opportunities for providers of behavioral health services by increasing information and feedback provided by underserved communities. The program will prioritize strategies for improving and increasing opportunities for individuals to share lived experiences.

    Service Provider: Mendocino County BHRS

     

    MOPS is a partnership between behavioral health rehabilitation specialists and the Sheriff’s department service technicians designed to respond to three underserved target areas of the County. The teams provide triage for specialty mental health and community services. Additionally, they provide care management/support for mental health issues as needed, and crisis prevention support/coordination when necessary.

    Rehabilitation specialists coordinate with jail services to refer those released from jail to necessary and appropriate behavioral health services.

    This program provides outreach and education to underserved Latino families in Mendocino County. Services include linkage and engagement that focuses on identifying and addressing depression, suicidal thoughts, and referrals to counseling.

    Service Provider: Nuestra Alianza de Willits

     

    This program serves young teen students with behavioral problems that may indicate mental and emotional difficulties. The program serves to reach out to Native students in their schools, increase access to timely services, and reduce likelihood of school failure.

    Service Provider: Consolidated Tribal Health Project

     

    This program offers suicide prevention activities such as the regional North Bay Suicide Prevention Hotline, maintaining updated resources, communicating suicide prevention numbers, resources, and trainings. Activities include Suicide Prevention Week educational activities, SafeTALK, and ASIST trainings.

    Service Provider: Mendocino County BHRS

     

    This project includes community education and resource referrals regarding risks and protective factors for suicide. Forums are held quarterly and informational luncheons are held monthly.

Statewide Prevention and Early Intervention

Mendocino County partners with the California Mental Health Services Authority (CalMHSA) for statewide prevention and early intervention campaigns.  These include access to campaigns, educational materials, and anti stigma materials.  These include but are not limited to the following campaigns:
